Learn more about the Dragon Double Dojo from our informational brochure
New Milford Karate-Martial Arts School
The Double Dragon Dojo was established in New Milford in 1992. It is a traditional karate dojo teaching the art of Okinawan Shuri ryu. Students are generally accepted starting from 5 years of age. Our oldest student was 84 when he started!
Owner and chief instructor, Fran Babbino, called “Renshi,” started martial arts training in 1979 and holds the rank of sixth degree black belt. Many of her New Milford students have not only excelled in karate but have gone on to become attorneys, school teachers, business leaders, law enforcement officers, fire fighters, military veterans, and wonderful parents, whose children are now enrolled in the Double Dragon Dojo.
Our karate school is “a little out of the way but a lot less to pay,” as we do not use contracts. We have a month-to-month membership.

Community Involvement
New Milford has seen our students participate in many community activities. Some of them include: ANENY (A New England New Year), March of Dimes Fundraisers, Village Fair Days, AmeriCares, MS Fundraisers, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Kick-A-Thons, Memorial Day Parades, Tri Centennial Parade, Women’s Self-Defense Class with the New Milford Police Dept., classes for Girl Scouts & Cub Scouts, shows for nursing homes, and many other events that the Double Dragon Dojo was asked to participate in or donate to.
Not only do we teach karate, but good citizenship and volunteerism.
A Family Place
New Milford families have been coming to the Double Dragon Dojo since its opening and it is not unusual to have fathers, mothers, children and grandchildren attending classes. Our family, Renshi Fran, Mr. Bill and Sensei Billy, owners of the karate school, provide an atmosphere of fun and enlightenment to all who attend. Renshi Fran teaches all of the children’s classes with Sensei Neil Stanley assisting. Sensei Billy and Sensei John Nelson instruct the teen and adult classes, while Mr. Bill attend to the business aspect of the dojo.
Work Out & Tone Up
For those teens and adults who want more, we have work out classes that go “above and beyond” the karate classes. These are not for the faint of heart! Physical conditioning and toning your body workouts are run by Sensei John Nelson. This is great for losing weight and relieving stress.
Why the Double Dragon Dojo?
Along with community involvement, a family atmosphere, and no contracts, we offer you instructions by certified black belts, who over the years have taught thousands of New Milford’s children & adults the art of karate and good citizenship. We have smaller classes with more individualized attention for the students. Karate camp is offered during the summer for children and teens, and there are year round scheduled sleep-overs which are really popular with our younger students, but are especially appreciated by their parents!
So why not come in and have a free week of lessons, on us!
